The "quarantane" are ugly rag dolls, created immediately after the carnival, namely on the Ash Wednesday, carrying seven arrows, one white and six black, representing the "widows of the carnival." The display of Quarantane takes place on Ash Wednesday: they are hung from the balconies of the old town and every Saturday an arrow is taken off, until to Holy Saturday when the last white arrow is removed, and the doll is then burned in a hidden place.
