The patronal festival dedicated to St. Michael Archangel in Gravina in Puglia is a heartfelt celebration marking the end of the summer season for the inhabitants of Gravina. It lasts for about a week between religious and civil events, although the highlight is on September 29th, the Patron Saint’s day. The festival attracts many people from neighboring towns and fellow immigrants. The festival tells the miraculous story, the defeat of the Hungarians and the salvation of Gravina thanks to the blessed saint.
In recent years, thanks to a renewed Committee, the program combines civil and religious events during the all week: sports tournaments, art and photography exhibitions, cultural events, musical concerts. On the evening of the 29th the festival has its high point, with the masses and religious parades, until the midnight spectacular fireworks. The following day, on the 30th, is the closing day of the festival, celebrated with a big music concert. The festival is also an excellent opportunity to visit this beautiful town in the hinterland of Bari, rich in history, culture, art and gastronomy.
