Every year in Lecce, on the 24th, 25th and 26th of August, it is celebrated, with a solemn procession, the patron saint’s day, the Bishop Sant'Oronzo. In these days there are held numerous band concerts and music performances. The festival illuminations adorn the main streets of the town. The festival ends with an impressive display of fireworks. The sincere devotion of the faithful is also shown with the settings and festival illuminations of the town, with beautiful fireworks and music, which confer the authentic atmosphere of the festival. On the same days there are also celebrated the saints Giusto e Fortunato, and there is a typical and tasty gastronomic tradition: in fact, cockerels are roasted, along with the “melanzanata” a typical dish made of eggplants. The event is also an opportunity to visit the wonderful city of Lecce, a city that in its urban fabric combines remarkable examples of baroque style, with its majestic palaces, and also with its evidences of Messapian, pre-Christian and Roman ruins of the imperial era.
