ITINERARIES AND TOURS

Romanesque Apulia

The Romanesque style finds its maximum expression in Apulia, between the XI and XII century, a land of exchange of cultures and religions. The tour starts in Bari where you can admire the Cathedral of San Sabino and the Basilica of San Nicola, two of the greatest examples of Romanesque architecture in Apulia, set in the beautiful old town overlooking the sea, where the beautiful Norman Castle is also located.

Then the tour moves to Trani: visit the marina and the harbor area with its narrow streets crowded with restaurants and bars. You will be also visiting the beautiful Romanesque cathedral dedicated to St. Nicola Pellegrino facing the Adriatic Sea and the Norman Castle.

Next stage Barletta, to the De Nittis art gallery, which holds the splendid collection of the famous painter G. De Nittis, representative of the flourishing art period in Europe in the XIX century. The gallery follows the artistic development of the painter, from the natural subject during the Neapolitan period, to themes evoking the nature of modern cities, such as Paris and London. Donated by his wife Leontine Gruvelle to the town of Barletta, the collection is kept in the Palazzo della Marra, which up to half of the XVI century, was the residence of the noble Orsini family.

Last stage is the towns of Ruvo di Puglia and his beautiful co-cathedral, as well as the Jatta National Archaeological Museum, and then the town of Bitonto, city of art with its Co-Cathedral, the Apulian National Gallery and the Diocesan Museum.
